June Peonies – Oshawa/Toronto

This past weekend I visited the Oshawa Botanical Gardens for their peony festival. I’d never been before and I didn’t quite know what to expect but it was actually really nice. There’s an arena right next to the gardens and inside they had the peony contest going on where local growers had their best blooms displayed.

The gardens themselves are quite lovely. The entrance has a large garden almost exclusively dedicated to peonies, which if you’re like me, is pretty much a dream come true. There are also many paths and a nice gazebo with a lawn and benches where you can sit and people watch.

While I was there, they had ice cream trucks, a hot dog stand, and various local artists, food vendors and musicians, which made it a really relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Though the festival was only on this weekend, I would still recommend a visit if you live in the area, maybe bring lunch and have a picnic!
